ในช่วงทศวรรษ 2490 เป็นยุคศิลปะเพื่อชีวิตยุคแรกๆที่ได้รับอิทธิพลความคิดจากต่างชาติ โดยเฉพาะจากประเทศสังคมนิยม จิตร ภูมิศักดิ์ เป็นผู้เสนอแนวคิด ศิลปะเพี่อชีวิต ศิลปะเพื่อประชน และได้สร้างบทเพลงขึ้นมากมาย เช่น มาร์ชชาวนาไทย, มาร์ชกรรมกร, ศักดิ์ศรีของแรงงาน, รำวงวันเมย์เดย์, ฯลฯ จนถือเป็นต้นกำเนิด และมีอิทธิพลอย่างมากต่อเพลงเพื่อชีวิตในยุคต่อมาที่รับอิทธิพลเพลงประท้วงสงคราม เพลงเพื่อเสรีภาพจากตะวันตกเข้ามาผสมผสานด้วย

The 1950, marked the first period of ‘Art for Lifes’ as infiuences were receive from ideas drawn from overseas, especially from socialist countries. Jit Phumisak founded the idea of ‘Art for lifes’ and ‘Art for the Peoples’. He wrote many song such as ‘The Farmers March’, ‘The Worker’s March’, ‘Labour Dignity’, and ‘The May Day Dance’. Such songs were subsequently to influence the ‘Songs for Lifes’ of future periods. These were also shaped by songs opposing war as well as songs of freedom from western songs.
